Boutique Hotels in Mauritius: Where Personal Touch Brings Big Advantages

posted by Veranda Resorts 19th November 2025 0 comments

There’s a certain kind of peace you only find on small islands. The kind of silence that makes you pay attention. In Mauritius, it can be the waves, the sound of someone laughing in the distance or this strong feeling that life is lighter here. Boutique hotels capture that same feeling! They are places that remember your name, your favourite drink and the way you like your eggs. Not because it’s scripted, but because it’s human. For travellers who’ve had enough of crowded lobbies and identical rooms, Mauritius’ boutique hotels offer something honest: space to breathe, to connect and to feel genuinely looked after!

WHY BOUTIQUE HOTELS OFFER A DIFFERENT KIND OF ESCAPE

The beauty of small establishments lies in the fact that nothing seems rushed. In a boutique hotel, mornings proceed naturally. Your coffee is served exactly how you like it, and no one rushes you to leave. There is room for silence, for conversation, for simply being present. Mauritius has its own gentle rhythm, and these hotels adapt to it. You won’t find endless corridors or queues at the buffet here. Instead, you’ll find people who take the time to chat, caring staff who pay attention to the little details, and spaces that make you feel like you’re part of the island rather than separate from it.

THE PERSONAL TOUCH THAT DEFINES EVERY BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Staff providing sincere service at Veranda Resort

What makes a boutique hotel so memorable is its sincerity. The people who work there don’t follow a script; they follow instinct. They’ll ask how you slept, if you enjoyed dinner, or if you’d like another cup of tea, not because they have to, but because they actually want to know. It’s this quiet attention that gives your stay a soul. You notice it in the way the table is set with your favourite fruit, or how someone remembers that you prefer your room windows open to let in the sea breeze. Every gesture feels effortless, thoughtful and real. It’s the kind of service that turns a simple holiday into something you’ll think about long after you leave the island.

THE AUTHENTIC CHARM OF BOUTIQUE HOTELS IN MAURITIUS

Superior room with sea view at Veranda Resort

Every boutique hotel in Mauritius carries a bit of the island’s character within its walls. They’re built to remind you where you are and why you came. Each one tells its own quiet story, shaped by local hands and island imagination.

Here’s what gives them their charm:

– Architecture that feels alive: Creole-style roofs, open verandas and rooms designed to let in the light, fresh air and the sound of the ocean.

– Local touches everywhere: From woven palm furniture to paintings by Mauritian artists, every detail connects you to the island’s creativity.

– Flavours from nearby kitchens: Menus often feature fresh and local ingredients. Fish from the morning catch, fruit picked that same day and spices from nearby markets.

– Spaces that breathe simplicity: No marble halls or grand chandeliers, just natural textures, open skies and a sense of ease that feels unmistakably Mauritian.

How can we resist all these good vibes?

CONNECTING WITH THE HEART OF MAURITIUS

Friendly chat between staff and guests at Veranda Resort

Staying in a boutique hotel in Mauritius means seeing the island through its people. Here, hospitality feels genuine: friendly chats, warm smiles and small gestures that make you feel part of something. The chef might ask if you enjoyed your meal, or a staff member might stop for a laugh before you head out for the day. These simple moments show the true spirit of Mauritius: open, kind, and quietly joyful. It’s this easy connection that turns a short stay into a lasting memory.

THE REAL VALUE OF CHOOSING HOTELS IN MAURITIUS

Veranda Hotel in a calm setting away from crowds

The true value of boutique hotels in Mauritius lies in how they make you feel. These are places that offer calm instead of crowds, attention instead of routine and heart instead of formality. Every stay carries a touch of humanity, from the familiar faces that greet you each morning to the thoughtful details that make you feel at ease. Travelling becomes less about where you go and more about how it makes you feel. In Mauritius, that feeling is simple: peaceful, genuine and full of warmth.

Interview with Vikram Gajeelee, Hotel Manager at Veranda Pointe aux Biches

posted by Veranda Resorts 17th November 2025 0 comments

Have you ever wondered who’s behind the scenes of a hotel’s day-to-day management, or what true success in hospitality really means? Between two busy days, Vikram took the time to reflect on his remarkable 28-year journey in the hotel industry. From 1997 to today, his career has been built on passion, humility, and dedication. Through his words, we invite you to see Veranda Pointe aux Biches through his eyes those of a hotelier deeply devoted to his team, his guests, and his island.

Hello Vikram, can you tell us a bit about your background? How did you start in hospitality, and what have been the key milestones along your path?

Interview with Vikram Gajeelee, Manager of Veranda Pointe aux Biches Hotel

“I took my first steps in hospitality in the early 1990s, while I was still a student. During every school holiday, I worked as an intern in the Food & Beverage department of various hotels. These repeated experiences allowed me to discover the pace of the profession, the importance of human connection, and the joy of making others happy. After five or six years of learning on the job, I knew for sure this was where I wanted to build my career.”

What first inspired you to join this industry? Was there a meeting, an experience, or a particular moment that made you say: ‘This is what I want to do’?

“What drew me to hospitality was, above all, the human connection. I love meeting people from all over the world, engaging with them, and discovering their cultures and stories. This career has given me a unique window to the world, where every day brings a new encounter and a new experience.”

As a Hotel Manager, what still excites you most about your job today? What keeps you motivated and inspired every morning?

“What still excites me the most is the human aspect. No two days are the same they’re filled with interactions, smiles, and shared moments. I love being at the heart of the hotel’s daily life, close to both the team and our guests. That genuine connection, that shared energy, is what drives me to start each day with the same enthusiasm.”

From Mauritius to Seychelles and cruise ships what makes Veranda Pointe aux Biches unique for you?

“What truly makes Veranda Pointe aux Biches unique is the dedication of its team. Every member of staff puts their heart into making our guests happy and delivering a sincere, warm experience. There’s a genuine sense of family here, a natural spirit of support, and a shared passion for Mauritian hospitality. It’s that authenticity and generosity that make all the difference.”

If you had to define the philosophy of Veranda Pointe aux Biches in one sentence, what would it be?

“Living with your feet in the sand and your heart open to Mauritian warmth that’s the essence of Veranda Pointe aux Biches: simple, sincere, and deeply human.”

How would you describe your relationship with your team?

Le personnel du resort accueillant les clients avec le sourire, illustrant un service chaleureux

“I value close relationships built on trust and listening. For me, good management is founded on mutual respect and communication. I try to be present, approachable, and to ensure that everyone feels recognised and valued. A united, fulfilled team is the key to genuine service and a positive atmosphere throughout the hotel.”

What values guide your leadership every day?

“The values that guide me daily are authenticity, kindness, and passion. Authenticity because it’s important that everyone can be themselves and genuine in the way they welcome guests. Kindness because taking care of our team means taking care of our guests too. And passion for our profession, our island, and the joy of sharing it’s what drives us to give our best every single day.”

What advice would you give to a young person who dreams of becoming a Hotel Manager one day?

“Hospitality is, above all, a human adventure. Every guest, every colleague teaches you something new. My advice would be not to rush every stage matters. Working in the restaurant, at reception, or in other departments helps you understand how a hotel truly functions and the importance of teamwork. That hands-on experience, built step by step, makes all the difference when you become a Hotel Manager.”

In your opinion, what makes a hotel truly successful? Is it about the location, the team, the attitude or a mix of all three?

View of Veranda Pointe aux Biche

“The success of a hotel lies in the balance between several elements: the place, the team, and the attitude. When these three align an inspiring setting, a passionate team, and a genuinely human approach the magic happens. That’s when a simple stay turns into a memorable experience, filled with emotion and sincerity.”

What’s the most meaningful compliment a guest has ever given you about the hotel?

“The most beautiful compliment I’ve ever received was: ‘Here, it feels like home only better.’
That’s exactly what we strive to create at Veranda Pointe aux Biches: a warm, simple, and genuine atmosphere where everyone feels at ease from the moment they arrive, as if among friends.”

How do you ensure the service remains consistently excellent, day after day?

“For me, it’s all about keeping the spirit of the place alive simplicity, warmth, and authenticity. Service should never become mechanical; it should remain sincere, human, and true to the Mauritian way of welcoming others. By nurturing that natural generosity and attentiveness every day, we’re able to offer our guests a truly authentic experience.”

If a guest only had 48 hours to discover Mauritius, what would you recommend in and around the hotel?

Spa staff providing excellent service to customers, offering a relaxing

“In 48 hours, I’d tell them to focus on the present moment. Start with a relaxing massage at the Seven Colours Spa, then enjoy a sunset drink at the Footloose Bar facing the lagoon. Nearby, the Grand Baie market is a must to experience local flavours and the vibrant Mauritian spirit. I’d also suggest a walk through the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden a true natural gem and a stop at Cap Malheureux with its iconic, red-roofed church, a place that perfectly captures the beauty of the island’s north.”

‘Feel Mauritius, Feel Mauritian’ what’s your favourite spot on the island, and why does it represent you?

“My favourite place in Mauritius is Cap Malheureux that peaceful northern spot where the lagoon meets the horizon, facing the islets. I love going there early in the morning, when everything is still quiet, fishermen prepare their boats, and the sky is painted in shades of pink and gold. This place feels like me because it embodies the simplicity and authenticity of Mauritius no ostentatious luxury, just natural beauty, serenity, and everyday generosity. You feel a true connection to the sea, nature, to people. Much like at Veranda Pointe aux Biches, it carries that ‘barefoot spirit’: sincere, warm, and full of heart, where every smile reflects the soul of Mauritius.”

If you could describe your guests in one word, what would it be?

“Authentic. They come looking for more than just a seaside getaway they seek a real experience, one made of simplicity, connection, and shared moments. Their sincerity and open-mindedness create the beautiful energy that makes Veranda Pointe aux Biches such a vibrant and welcoming place.”

Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time? Do you have a hobby, ritual, or activity that helps you recharge?

“On Sundays, I recharge in my garden. It’s my quiet moment away from the rhythm of the hotel. I love growing plants, especially from the Araceae family philodendrons, monsteras, anthuriums, alocasias, colocasias. Watching them grow, their shapes and colours, is both soothing and inspiring. Gardening gives me the same joy as hospitality: caring for something, helping it thrives, and seeing it return beauty in its own way.”

What qualities do you look for in your team members?

An employee of Veranda Hotel projecting warm Mauritian hospitality and helping guests with a smile

“Above all, I look for passion a passion for service and for our island. Working at Veranda Pointe aux Biches means sharing a love for Mauritius, its culture, its scents, and its joy of living. This passion can’t be taught it’s something you feel and naturally pass on. Kindness is just as important, because a hotel runs like one big family. Everyone depends on one another, and it’s this sense of cohesion that creates the smooth, harmonious atmosphere our guests can feel. In short, I look for people who are smiling, genuine, and proud of what they do. They are the ones who give the hotel its soul and each stay, its unforgettable touch.”

On a scale from 1 to 10, how lucky do you consider yourself?

11 out of 10
“Working at Veranda Pointe aux Biches and living in Mauritius is a real privilege. Every day, I get to enjoy an exceptional setting, surrounded by a passionate and caring team. I have the chance to create experiences that make people smile, to share simple yet meaningful moments, and to meet people from all over the world. This blend of emotion, nature, and humanity makes each day unique and that’s what makes me truly grateful.”

Finally, if you could have any talent, what would it be?

The room at Veranda Hotel, featuring a bright and comfortable space with tropical-inspired decor

“If I could have one talent, it would be the ability to slow down time. To savour each moment, to appreciate the small details we often overlook in our daily routine. Watching a sunset, listening to the sound of the waves, sharing a smile… Those simple moments are, to me, the most precious.”

And with that, Vikram invites you to Veranda Pointe aux Biches, where every stay is lived with your feet in the sand and your heart at ease.

Speak like a Mauritian: Experience Mauritius through Creole

posted by Veranda Resorts 13th November 2025 0 comments

Travelling to Mauritius is an experience that goes far beyond the beauty of its landscapes. Behind the peaceful beaches and sparkling waters lies a welcoming culture, where every interaction begins with a smile and a few simple words in Mauritian Creole. This everyday language is part of Mauritian life; it punctuates their conversations, conveys their humour and reflects the local way of seeing the world. Learning it, even just a little, transforms your stay into a deeper human experience. At Veranda Resorts, you are encouraged to embrace local culture through workshops, activities and, above all, warm encounters with the teams, who are always delighted to share a few words of Mauritian Creole with the guests.

MAURITIAN CREOLE: A LANGUAGE THAT BRINGS YOU CLOSER TO THE LOCALS

Mauritian Creole expressions reflecting the culture and daily life on Mauritius island

Mauritian Creole is a simple, musical and intuitive language for French-speaking visitors, making it an excellent starting point for immersing yourself in local culture. Heard at the market, on the beach, on buses or in hotels, it is part of Mauritian daily life and creates a friendly atmosphere where everyone understands each other easily. Learning a few words of Mauritian Creole allows you to move beyond the role of a simple visitor and become a guest who understands the nuances of local life. This language tells the multicultural story of the island, it brings people together and reflects an identity shaped by warmth, simplicity and spontaneity. In Mauritius, even a simple “Bonzour” opens the door to a warm conversation.

MAKE YOUR ENCOUNTERS MORE AUTHENTIC

Add an authentic Mauritian touch to your stay at a resort in Mauritius

At Veranda Resorts: Create a genuine connection through Mauritian Creole

Using a few words of Mauritian Creole during your stay at Veranda Resorts often creates an immediate connection. The team members are delighted to see guests trying their hand at their language and are always happy to teach new expressions. A simple “Ki manier” said at breakfast is sometimes enough to spark a spontaneous conversation, followed by a laugh and encouragement to learn more. This sense of closeness makes the Veranda Resorts’ experience even more welcoming.

At the market or in villages: Discover Mauritius through Mauritian Creole

In Mauritius’ colourful markets, Mauritian Creole is a true cultural passport. Saying “Mersi” or “Sori” instantly creates a relaxed atmosphere. Vendors appreciate the effort and are happy to teach you a new expression or comment on your pronunciation. These genuine moments enrich your discovery of the island and often become cherished memories of your trip.

On the beach or on an excursion: Learn Mauritian Creole naturally

Mauritians love to chat and share their culture. On the beach, in taxis or during an excursion, you will quickly realise that Mauritian Creole is mainly learned by listening and observing. A taxi driver will gladly explain a colourful expression to you. A fisherman will share anecdotes about his morning fishing trip. These spontaneous exchanges bring the language to life and create memories that go far beyond a simple trip.

Holidays in Mauritius: the essential guide for adventurous travellers

Mauritius has always attracted travellers in search of sunshine. Yet beyond its iconic beaches, the island offers an exceptional playground for those who love to stay active, explore and experience unforgettable moments. Make the most of the ocean, the mountains and the fishing villages that reflect the beauty of this magical island. Mauritius provides the ideal setting for active and authentic holidays. This beautiful destination naturally blends adventure, nature and a relaxed way of life, allowing you to enjoy a different kind of stay that feels both energizing and truly refreshing.

MAURITIUS : PERFECT FOR ADVENTURE-SEEKING TRAVELLERS

Beach relaxation in Mauritius at Veranda Resort

An incredible natural playground for holidays in Mauritius

Mauritius captivates visitors with the diversity of its landscapes. In a single day, you can move from a serene beach to a dense forest or to mountain peaks offering breathtaking views. Le Morne, the Black River Gorges and the Gris Gris cliffs are among the island’s most iconic locations, where you can truly feel the raw energy of Mauritius. Whether you are a hiker, a watersports enthusiast or simply a curious explorer, every corner of the island invites adventure. Nature remains accessible, pristine and diverse enough to offer a different experience every day.

A climate made for outdoor adventures

The Mauritian climate is a real advantage for active travellers. Mild temperatures throughout the year make it easy to enjoy unrestricted outdoor activities. Mornings are ideal for hiking or boat trips, while afternoons are perfect for water sports and local discoveries. Even during the austral summer, coastal breezes keep outdoor adventures pleasant. This offers great flexibility to create a programme that combines physical activity with more relaxed moments by the water.

A welcoming and inspiring Mauritian culture

Adventure in Mauritius goes beyond landscapes. It is also experienced through encounters with local people. Warm and open, Mauritian culture naturally encourages travellers to venture off the beaten path. It is easy to chat with fishermen after a trip out to sea, talk to vendors in local markets or discover villages where time seems to move at a slower pace. This welcoming spirit makes every discovery more meaningful. Visitors can thus enjoy active holidays while staying connected to the soul of the island.

THE BEST OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY

Hiking trails to reconnect with nature

Outdoor activities with hiking in nature

Mauritius offers several must-see hiking spots, and Le Morne is one of the most iconic. Known for its powerful history and spectacular lagoon views, Le Morne Brabant is considered one of the island’s most beautiful trails, attracting both visitors and locals alike. The Black River Gorges attract those who enjoy longer walks immersed in the heart of tropical nature. Between waterfalls, forests and panoramic viewpoints, each hike reveals a different facet of the island. These outings are excellent for breathing fresh air, admiring the scenery and feeling the unique energy of Mauritius.

Kayaking, paddleboarding and sea excursions in protected lagoons

Paddleboarding, calm-water aquatic sport

For those who enjoy calm waters, kayaking and paddleboarding are ideal activities. Mauritian lagoons are peaceful, wide and surrounded by coral reefs, allowing you to glide safely across the water. It is a beautiful way to explore small islands, mangroves and hidden coves. In the morning, the light is soft and the water is often crystal clear, making the activity even more enjoyable. These sea excursions offer a truly relaxing experience while keeping you close to nature.

Summer, from October to March, is ideal for water sports in warm and pleasant lagoons.

Here are a few suggestions to help you enjoy your stay in the best conditions:

– Lightweight clothing

– A good pair of trainers

– A comfortable daypack

– Suitable sun protection

– Swimwear

– A reusable water bottle

If you enjoy photography, remember to bring protection for your equipment against humidity. The idea is to travel light while staying well prepared to enjoy every activity.

Veranda Hotels: Celebrating Mauritian Hospitality with Tripadvisor 2025 Award

posted by Veranda Resorts 3rd November 2025 0 comments

Mauritius is often celebrated for its turquoise lagoons and tropical landscapes, yet what truly lingers in the hearts of those who visit is something deeper — the warmth of its people. This year, that warmth once again found recognition on the international stage as Veranda Resorts proudly earned multiple accolades at the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2025, reaffirming its place among the world’s most beloved boutique hotel brands.

A CELEBRATION OF GENUINE HOSPITALITY

Veranda Hotels winning their 2025 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award in Mauritius

Every year, Tripadvisor honours the top-rated destinations and establishments worldwide through its Travellers’ Choice Awards, a distinction based entirely on guest reviews. This makes the recognition particularly meaningful, as it reflects the direct appreciation and trust of travellers who have experienced these places first-hand.

In 2025, four Veranda Resorts properties joined this prestigious list:

Veranda Grand Baie – the haven in the island’s most iconic bay,

Veranda Palmar Beach – the joyful seaside retreat on the sunlit east coast,

Veranda Paul et Virginie – the romantic adults-only sanctuary in Grand Gaube,

Veranda Pointe aux Biches – the barefoot-chic resort where simplicity meets elegance.

Each of these hotels, unique in personality yet united in spirit, reflects what Veranda Resorts stands for a celebration of Mauritian life through genuine connection, thoughtful service, and cultural authenticity.

More Than Recognition: A Reflection of Dedication

Awards may recognise performance, but they are built on something far more personal — dedication. Behind every guest review and every positive rating lies the daily commitment of teams who believe that true hospitality begins with heart.

At Veranda Resorts, this philosophy is lived every day. From the smiles that greet guests upon arrival to the gentle attentiveness of the service team, every gesture is made with sincerity. Staff members are not simply hosts; they are storytellers of Mauritian culture, weaving warmth and attentiveness into each guest’s experience.

Whether it’s a gardener offering a freshly picked hibiscus, a chef preparing a Creole delicacy with passion, or a front office team member sharing hidden local gems, these small acts of kindness shape the memory of a stay. This human dimension is what guests remember most — and what transforms a trip into an emotional connection with Mauritius.

The Essence of Veranda: Feel Mauritius, Feel Mauritian

Colonial-inspired interior design at a Veranda Hotel in Mauritius

Veranda Resorts has long invited travellers to go beyond the postcard image of Mauritius. Its philosophy, expressed through the brand’s signature promise Feel Mauritius, Feel Mauritian is about immersion — not observation.

Every Veranda property tells a story of place.
The colonial-inspired charm of Veranda Paul et Virginie speaks to timeless romance; the playful spirit of Veranda Palmar Beach reflects the island’s joie de vivre; the rustic elegance of Veranda Pointe aux Biches embodies the simplicity of coastal living; and the lively rhythm of Veranda Grand Baie captures the energy of a seaside village.

Through architecture, design, and experience, Veranda Resorts celebrates the island’s cultural mosaic. Each resort incorporates Creole influences in its décor and ambience — from locally woven textiles and handcrafted furniture to wall art created by Mauritian artisans. The culinary journey follows the same ethos, offering guests the flavours of local life: freshly caught fish grilled with island spices, Creole curries simmered with love, and tropical desserts bursting with colour.

Dining at Veranda is more than a meal; it’s a celebration of Mauritian culture, where traditional recipes come to life in a modern setting.

Where Simplicity Becomes Sophistication

One of the defining traits of Veranda Resorts is its ability to combine charm with comfort — to remain elegant yet unpretentious. Each resort is designed as a human-scale haven, where guests feel both pampered and at ease.

Instead of grandeur, Veranda chooses intimacy. Instead of opulence, it offers authenticity. The atmosphere across the resorts is one of effortless connection — guests converse freely with staff, laughter flows naturally by the pool, and the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the sea breeze at breakfast.

This approach to hospitality has made Veranda a favourite among travellers seeking genuine moments rather than staged luxury. It’s this sincerity and natural charm that make each stay memorable — and that’s exactly what travellers appreciated in their Tripadvisor reviews.

The People Behind Recognition

While awards celebrate brands, they are, above all, a tribute to people who bring hospitality to life every single day. The teams across Veranda Resorts are united by pride, empathy, and a shared love for their island.

Many have been with the brand for years, growing alongside returning guests who now feel like family. This continuity creates a sense of familiarity that guests often mention in their reviews — the joy of being welcomed back by name, the comfort of seeing familiar faces, the feeling of belonging.

It is in these simple, sincere exchanges that the spirit of Mauritius truly shines.

Looking Ahead: Continuing to Share the Island’s Soul

As Veranda Resorts celebrates its success at the 2025 Travellers’ Choice Awards, it also looks forward — with humility and renewed passion. Each recognition serves as encouragement to continue evolving while staying true to the brand’s essence: creating spaces where every guest can feel the soul of Mauritius.

The goal is not only to be remembered for beautiful places, but for meaningful encounters — moments that reflect generosity, kindness, and the effortless charm of Mauritian life.

To all the guests whose words and memories made these awards possible, Veranda Resorts extends its heartfelt thanks.
Your stories inspire us to keep doing what we love — sharing the spirit of Mauritius, one stay at a time.

Veranda Resorts: Five Boutique Hotels, Five Ways to Experience Mauritius

posted by Veranda Resorts 23rd July 2025 0 comments

With Veranda Resorts, set off to discover five authentic sides of Mauritius. This collection of boutique hotels, each nestled in a charming village across the island, invites you to experience a uniquely Mauritian journey, intimate, sincere, and deeply rooted in local life.

On the east coast, surrender to the soft rhythm of white sandy beaches and tranquil lagoons. On the west coast, embrace adventure in wild, unspoilt nature. In Grand Baie, discover the island’s flavours and warmth in a lively village atmosphere. And in the peaceful hamlet of Grand Gaube, admire untouched seascapes and indulge in quiet moments suspended between sea and sky.

1. THE BEACH: SERENITY ON THE EAST COAST

Serenity on the East Coast

On the island’s eastern shore, fine white sand stretches endlessly, gently lapped by crystal-clear waters. Time slows here. Barefoot strolls, slow mornings, and water sports on the lagoon set the tone, sailing, paddleboarding, kitesurfing, or simply floating above coral gardens. Ocean lovers will feel right at home.

Veranda Palmar Beach captures the spirit of seaside holidays. Just steps from the beach, this boutique hotel immerses guests in a world where deep ocean blues blend harmoniously with lush greenery. Every detail is designed to reflect the Mauritian way of life, elegant, natural, and effortlessly soothing.

2. ADVENTURE: RAW BEAUTY ON THE WEST COAST

Raw Beauty at Veranda Tamarin

The west coast offers captivating contrasts, towering mountains, protected mangroves, and sun-kissed shores. Its blazing sunsets over the ocean remain sealed in memory as pure magic.

For the curious and thrill-seekers, Veranda Tamarin introduces its signature Explorer Program, showcasing the untamed beauty of the west. Kayak rides down peaceful rivers, visits to cultural landmarks, and getaways to iconic beaches like Flic en Flac, all create a deep, respectful connection to Mauritius’s wilder side.

Here, adventure is not rushed. It’s savoured, authentic, exhilarating, and always meaningful.

3. CULTURE: TRADITIONS COME ALIVE IN THE NORTH-WEST

Tradition comes alive at Veranda Resorts

Mauritius’s north-west is a vibrant region where deep-rooted traditions meet modern life. At Veranda Pointe aux Biches, authenticity takes centre stage, beginning, quite literally, with bare feet. Guests are encouraged to let go, reconnect with nature, and embrace the essentials.

Every week, the “Mauritian Day” celebration brings culture to life. Join in interactive workshops: learn a few words of Creole, try out traditional instruments, or move to the beat of séga, the island’s soulful dance.

Local flavours take the spotlight too, with Creole dishes served buffet-style and passed down during hands-on cooking sessions. At Veranda Pointe aux Biches, culture is not simply observed, it is tasted, danced, shared, and felt.

4. FLAVOUR: CULINARY JOURNEYS IN THE HEART OF GRAND BAIE

Culinary Journeys at Veranda Resorts

Grand Baie, in the island’s north-west, is more than a beach village, it’s a spirited hub of life, from sun-up to sundown. Market stalls overflow with spices and tropical fruits, and small alleys open onto turquoise bays.

Veranda Grand Baie welcomes you right in the heart of this buzzing village. With its tropical atmosphere and revisited local charm, the boutique hotel offers a full-on culinary escape. Enjoy just-caught seafood, grilled fish with your toes in the sand, or cocktails infused with local fruits as you take in the bay.

The most curious travellers linger in nearby stalls, nibbling local bites, uncovering hidden specialities, and exchanging stories with passionate locals.

In Grand Baie, meals become more than meals, they are moments of connection, discovery, and shared delight, savoured in a setting that’s both refined and relaxed, right by the sea.

5. CONTEMPLATION: ROMANCE AND STILLNESS IN GRAND GAUBE

Romance and Stillness in Grand Gaube

Grand Gaube, in the island’s quiet north, is a fishing village that feels untouched by time. Colourful pirogues drift in the lagoon, and peace seems to settle over the horizon. This is a place to pause, to breathe, to reconnect.

Veranda Paul et Virginie, an adults-only boutique hotel, is dedicated to romance and calm. Panoramic sea views, open spaces, infinity pools, and softly designed rooms invite you to surrender to the island’s quiet beauty.

Drift off on a traditional pirogue at sunset or glide across the lagoon for a moment of pure stillness. To take the experience further, a catamaran trip to Île aux Bernaches, an untouched islet with crystal waters, offers an unforgettable escape between sea and sky.

As you may have realised, Veranda Resorts offers more than just a place to stay; it invites you into the many layers of Mauritius’s soul. With five boutique hotels scattered across the island, each getaway becomes an intimate escape where nature, tradition, and heartfelt encounters intertwine.

Every region tells its own story, every moment spent deepens your connection to the island. And when it’s time to leave, you won’t just carry memories, you’ll take with you a trace of Mauritian authenticity, etched within you for years to come.

posted by Veranda Resorts 25th June 2025 0 comments

Ever find yourself daydreaming about a beach escape, only to realise you’ve left it a little too late to plan one? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! The good news is that Mauritius is just the kind of place where a last-minute holiday can turn into the trip of a lifetime. Forget endless spreadsheets and complicated itineraries. Sometimes the best adventures are done on a whim. So, if you’re wondering if you can still pack your bags and go on holidays to Mauritius without weeks of planning, the answer is a cheerful YES!

WHY MAURITIUS WORKS FOR A LAST-MINUTE ESCAPE

Blue lagoon waters for your island Mauritius escape

Mauritius is one of those destinations that never really needs overthinking. The island may be small, but it’s packed with everything you’d want from a tropical getaway. Stunning beaches? Challenging mountains? Great food? Mauritius island ticks all the boxes. But even more than that, you can discover fascinating places forged by incredible nature. What makes it even better for a last-minute trip is how easy it is to settle in. English and French are widely spoken, transfers are straightforward, and resorts like Veranda Resorts have everything set up so you can arrive, drop your bags and slip straight into holiday mode. In short, Mauritius is made for spontaneous travellers who want perfection without the hassle.

HOW TO BOOK YOUR FLIGHTS AND ACCOMMODATION FAST

A man and a woman booking a last-minute flight to Mauritius

Mauritius holidays don’t have to be full of stress. When it comes to flights, flexibility is your best friend. If you can adjust your departure days by a little, you’ll often find better prices and more options.

Look for flexible flight options

Keep an eye on flight comparison sites or even set up quick alerts so you don’t miss a good deal. As for where to stay, Mauritius makes it wonderfully easy. Many resorts, including Veranda Resorts, are well-prepared for last-minute guests. You can book directly online, often with special offers. Everything will be ready when you land. No endless searching or complicated planning, just a smooth check-in followed by a welcome drink and that first deep breath of warm island air.

PLANNING ACTIVITIES WITHOUT STRESS

Plan your family stay at Veranda Resorts on the beach

One of the joys of a last-minute escape is not having every second mapped out. In Mauritius, you can keep things easy while still making sure you don’t miss out on the best moments.

Experiences that don’t need booking

Beaches: Mauritius is famous for its beaches and the best part is you don’t need a ticket to enjoy them. Just grab your towel, some sun cream and settle in. From the lively vibe of Flic en Flac to the serenity Belle Mare, you’ll always end with a happy heart.

Hikes: If you want to stretch your legs, the forests in Mauritius are free to explore. Black River Gorges National Park offers stunning views while Le Morne Brabant rewards you with breathtaking panoramas at the top. No booking forms, no queues, just pure adventure.

Street foods: Food lovers can dive right into the local flavours without reservations. Try a bowl of dumplings, crispy gateaux piments, or a fresh coconut hacked open in front of you. These are the little treats that make wandering around the markets such a joy.

Reserve a few key highlights in advance

While most of your trip can be spontaneous, there are a few activities worth reserving early to avoid disappointment. Dolphin watching is one of Mauritius’ most popular experiences and spots can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. If you’re a golfer, booking a tee time in advance ensures you won’t miss the chance to play on some of the island’s world-class courses. The same goes for boat trips to nearby islets like Île aux Cerfs or Île aux Bénitiers. A quick reservation guarantees your place and gives you peace of mind, while still leaving plenty of room for flexibility during your holidays to Mauritius.

MAKING THE MOST OF A SHORT TRIP

Your short trip to Mauritius Island with Veranda Resorts

When your time is limited, it’s all about balance. Mauritius makes this surprisingly easy because everything is close by. You can spend the morning snorkelling in the clear lagoon, and by the afternoon wandering through a botanical garden or sipping a cool drink at a beach café. Distances on the island are short, so you won’t lose precious hours stuck in traffic or on transfers. The trick is to focus on two or three activities each day instead of trying to cram in everything. This way, your last-minute holidays to Mauritius will feel relaxed yet still full of unforgettable memories.
