Veranda Resorts
On the World Wetlands Day celebration, Veranda Resorts hotels wished to raise awareness among their team members but also among their clients on this very sensitive and important subject. Indeed, wetlands play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity by hosting a variety of unique fauna and flora species. However, wetlands are threatened by human activities such as land use planning, pollution, and excessive exploitation of natural resources.

As a hotel group, we can play a key role in educating travelers about the importance of wetland preservation and promoting sustainable practices to minimize the impact on these sensitive habitats.
The group’s Sustainability Officers wished to make their contribution by carrying out actions on the 2nd of February 2023 within their hotel.
Ashley from Veranda Tamarin

“I pledge to maximize sensitization and voice out wetlands’ importance such as they act like nursery and shelter for different species of fish as well as how they purify water through filtration of pollutants.”

Veranda Tamarin organized an excursion to La Prairie, a wetland in southern Mauritius, to educate team members about mangroves and conduct a beach cleanup.
Sindy from Veranda Palmar Beach
“My pledge is to increase awareness on the importance of our wetland as hotels are being constructed along the coast where the wetlands are destroyed either for plantation or for construction. And the wetland removes all pollutants in the water before it goes in the sea.”

Veranda Palmar Beach & Veranda Pointe aux Biches organized a trip to the Rivulet Terre Rouge bird sanctuary outside of Port Louis for the occasion to introduce the team members to the different endemic species as well as a place for migratory birds found there and show the importance of protecting this unique wildlife.
Laura from Veranda Pointe aux Biches
“I pledge to sensitize people on the importance of Wetlands during Coral Squad sessions.”

Each hotel in the Veranda Resorts group conducts once-a-week marine biodiversity awareness sessions for local kids in partnership with National Geo. The Veranda Pointe aux Biches team is committed to addressing the all-important topic of wetlands during these sessions.

This approach is part of the Biodiversity Protection pillar of our Now For Tomorrow sustainability program, which we are committed to following throughout the year with consistent and sustained actions within our hotels.
