Rattan is a first-choice material in the Creole-chic decoration of Veranda Grand Baie. And for good reason, it creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere to the hotel’s interior areas and brings a tropical and refined touch to the decoration. You may be familiar with the famous rattan baskets that are very popular in Mauritius for storing fruits and vegetables, or for use as beach bags or picnic baskets.
At Veranda Grand Baie, you’ll find this material in different forms!
Rattan, a craft tradition in Mauritius

Rattan is a natural material that grows in the rainforests of Mauritius, and its use in local handicrafts dates back centuries. Mauritian artisans have long worked with rattan to create furniture and decorative accessories that reflect the culture and history of the island.
The traditional techniques of weaving and folding continue today with passionate craftsmen creating modern and elegant designs to incorporate into refined and environmentally friendly decor.
Meubles Meunier, the art of Handwoven

We are proud to work with passionate craftsmen who are committed to perpetuating their know-how.
